Ciao Fairy Girls...
I have always wanted to write about the summer drink I
love. It was 2 years ago (June) when I was on vacation with my spouse in
Northern Italy. We stayed at a hotel in beautiful Ferrara near Castello
Estense, the biggest sightseeing of the city. We had 10 days to visit the
places of interest we had planned to see.
So, we
visited Venezia my choice iot ride a gondola,
walk to Saint-Marc square and buy some original Murano glasses.
My
spouse's choices was Bologna, Maranello, Modena and Sant'Agata
Bolognese because of his passion to visit
Ducati, Maserati, Ferrari, & Lamborghini.
Wherever we were going, an orange drink in a lowball glass was chasing us and suddenly we realized that every Italian drinks
this extraordinary coctail.
So after our morning visits to the above sightseeing, in the afternoons we were sitting to BIRRERIA GIORI (Piazza Savonarola) under the view of Castello Estense and were enjoying this delightful aperitif.
If you watch more carefully my profile picture you see that I am sitting in Giori's Birreria drinking Spritz.
I was so curius to learn how this coctail is made of, so then we met the owner and asked him how he prepares it. He told us that the recipe is a "piece of cake" and you can read it in the back label of liqueur Aperol.
He also mentioned that there are a lot of variations of the drink. Except of Aperol you can also use Campari or Cynar liqueurs and instead of Prosecco or sparkling wine, Champagne. Campari Spritz is more bitter and has red view.
Spritz is usually served over ice in a lowball glass and garnished with a slice of orange, or sometimes an
olive, depending on the liqueur.
Our recipe that we always prepare and we suggest to you, is exactly the same as described on Aperol's bottle but we prefer to use the beloved Martini Asti sparkling wine instead of Prosecco or Champagne and for garnish a slice of orange and 3 Maraschino cherries. Additionally we use a splash of Greek Soda water.
In Greece you can find Aperol and Campari in almost every market or in liquor stores.
Aperol Spritz Frizzante became our summer refreshing drink.
If you ever visit northern Italy don't miss the chance to taste Spritz, in every variation it exists.
I hope Fairies that you won't miss the chance to enjoy the summer refreshing drink Spritz.
Many frizzante kisses by Fairy{oo}Mary
I would love to ride the gondola and sip wine and eat cheese & fruit!
